The heart of the power industry is the fossil fuel power station. Fossil fuel power stations burn fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and oil to produce electricity. The vast majority of the world’s power stations are fueled by coal, approximately 41%. One of the greatest hazards of a coal-fired power station is the by-product created while producing electricity. Coal ash, also referred to as CCB (Coal Combustion By-Product), contains elements such as mercury, lead, and arsenic all of which are harmful to the environment and human health. To avoid the coal ash contaminants from entering the surrounding ground water and underlying soil, a geosynthetic liner must be deployed inside and over the CCB disposal area by a qualified installer.
